Liam began playing the ukulele after falling out of love with his 15 year on/off guitar relationship. He composes both instrumentals and songs, which tend to be in a style less expected on the ukulele. Liam teaches from his recording studio (shed) and has led the Norwich Ukulele Society for the last 4 years. He is also the organiser of the Uke East festival in Norwich, which raises money for charity.

TEACHING

I teach adults of all ages and abilities, on a one to one basis, either from my home studio or via Skype.  I also run weekly group sessions, beginner and intermediate group courses, and do workshops at festival events.  For info on courses in Norwich, or individual lessons, please contact me at starrstrum@gmail.com

SPECIAL SUMMER OFFER!

If you've been to any festivals recently and have been inspired to take some lessons, I am doing an introductory offer in June and July of £10 each for your first 4 lessons, so get in touch!

WORKSHOPS

Here are some of the workshops I offer, but I can tailor or create to suit other needs/events:

  • ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

This workshop is for those of you who have never played a ukulele before.  You'll learn about the various parts of the ukulele, how to tune it correctly,  the string names,  your first few chords, and you'll strum your first song.  Plus you'll receive another song and some further chords to take away with you and practice.
AIMED AT FIRST TIME PLAYERS WITH NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE OF PLAYING THE UKULELE

  • TREATING A STIFF NECK

This workshop focuses on expanding your playing beyond the first 4 frets.  By using the idea of shapes, instead of chords, you'll realise there's a world of opportunity further up the neck. Barre chords will no longer be quite so frightening...
AIMED AT ESTABLISHED BEGINNERS WHO CAN PLAY Bb, BUT HAVEN'T YET VENTURED OUT BEYOND THERE

  • 12 TECHNIQUES

A summary of 12 essential techniques to open doors in your wider ukulele abilities.  Ever wondered how a performer makes that sound, or what technique he's using?  Chances are it's one of these.  From harmonics to hammer-ons, tapping to tremolo rolls, there's lots to get your teeth into here.
AIMED AT INTERMEDIATES WITH GOOD CALYPSO AND SOME BASIC FINGERPICKING SKILLS
